What is psychological health and safety?

A psychologically healthy and safe workplace has been defined in the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace as “a workplace that promotes workers’ psychological well-being and actively works to prevent harm to worker psychological health, including in negligent, reckless or intentional ways”. The Standard outlines best practices and approaches for workplaces to assess the factors that influence psychological health and safety (PH&S). These include policies and procedures, as well as day-to-day interactions between leaders, workers, customers and clients.
